What I love most about wedding photography is the chance to be completely creative—to move with the light, the couple, the day's events, the mood, to make mistakes, to work with through them, to create something lovely, to tell a story. I get butterflies in my stomach when it all works together.

In the winter months when I'm not photographing as many weddings here in the mountains of western Colorado, I love to collaborate with other creatives who love their craft as much as I love mine. We play off each other's inspirations and ideas, and somehow through the chaos it all comes together perfectly.

This shoot is one of my all-time favorite collaborations with so many wonderful talents in the western Colorado wedding business. It was so much fun for me to photograph all these pretty things.

The gorgeous, jewel-toned, peach and green florals were designed by 3 Leaf Floral. Kelly is studied and skilled at floral design, and her flowers always set the tone for our shoots together. Kelly works in many of the same places I work on real weddings—mainly Grand Junction, Aspen, Telluride and Vail.

The shoes are the Valentino Lace Peep-Toe Pumps in Red.

The hand-drawn invitation suite was designed by Kindred Creative and printed by Handcraft Press in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The goal of this shoot was simple: let's tell a different wedding story. Wedding blogs and magazines are full of gorgeous, light-filled pastel weddings. It's the trend right now, and they are truly beautiful—I shoot these weddings all spring and summer, and I loooove them. But for this shoot, for which we took on 100% of the creative direction, we wanted to show that darker tones and a moody vibe can also be colorful, beautiful and romantic.

The table is the work of Stonewood Vintage who has a warehouse full of gorgeous rental pieces for special events: tables, chairs, china, glassware, service, candles, pillows... you name it. Her shop is like a vintage-lover's treasure trove, and I love poking around to see all the new things she adds to her collection regularly.

Our gorgeous model is Mollie Shepardson, who stays fit as a fiddle as the owner of Rokbarre here in Grand Junction. When she's not helping you break a sweat and discover your strength in her classes, she's modeling and playing with her adorable dog. We are lucky to have her in the Grand Valley.

These dresses are from Annelise Bridal Boutique in Grand Junction. Britta is the owner and curator of this lovely shop, and she works for each and every bridal client to make sure they look and feel their best on their wedding day. Mollie is modeling dresses by Allure.

These wedding cakes. Jaw dropping. They are by Bespoke Cakery Co. here in Grand Junction. Heather and Jaime — they know how to knock your socks off with gorgeous and delicious cakes.

I love texture and color, and this piano board from Stonewood Vintage was the perfect backdrop for a 3 Leaf Floral boutonniere. A closeup of a chocolate naked cake from Bespoke Cakery Co.

A diamond ring in a red velvet peony.

Mollie's makeup is by the one and only Hope Carlton with Perfect Touch Makeup here in Grand Junction. I LOVE photographing brides who have used Hope because after years in the photography business, she knows how to make a girl camera-ready, and stay camera-ready. She has a gift for highlighting eyes and keeping makeup looking fresh all day long. She truly is an artist with the airbrush.

Hair for this shoot is by Aimee Ludwig with Hair We Are here in Grand Junction. She is great with hair, and also great energy on a shoot. We all love Aimee.

Thanks to Wedding Chicks for publishing this shoot, and to OnceWed and countless other leading wedding industry publications for posting images from this shoot for your Instagram and Pinterest readers. We hope it inspires!
